REVOPOINT / How-to & tips
A missing scanner connection and a poor-quality point cloud are different problems. Resolve the first before trying to tune the second, then keep the capture and processing stages organised so a working result can be reproduced.
This guide draws evergreen workflow ideas from Revopoint's Revo Metro and MetroX connection material. It does not treat an older release announcement as current software advice or repeat outdated operating-system paths and shortcuts.

1. Establish the supported hardware arrangement

Confirm the current software and computer requirements for the exact scanner at the official download centre. Follow the scanner's connection sequence using the specified cable, adapter and power arrangement. Similar connectors do not prove that cables have equivalent data capability.
If the scanner is absent, check secure connections, suitable computer ports and normal power before changing scan parameters. Note what the software and operating system actually detect. Keep troubleshooting scoped to the connection, rather than changing several unrelated settings at once.
2. Make recovery safe and evidence-based
Save any existing project before restarting software or reconnecting equipment. If the prescribed connection checks do not resolve the issue, record the scanner model, computer, software version and exact error so support can assess a reproducible problem.
Do not disable security protection or apply an old firewall workaround simply because a historic tutorial mentions it. Permission prompts and diagnostics depend on the current operating system and application. Use current manufacturer guidance and stop before making broad system changes that are unrelated to the scanner.
3. Prove capture with a manageable trial
Once the scanner is recognised, use a stable, suitable object for a short test. Select an available mode and its required references, then check exposure, working distance and overlap against the live geometry. A connected device is not yet proof of usable capture.
Inspect the difficult features before proceeding to a larger job. If tracking becomes uncertain, pause and recover through familiar geometry. Save the raw project with a clear object identifier, keeping any later processing experiments separate from the initial capture.
4. Clean selectively and verify the handover
Review selections from multiple directions before removing background or support data. Apply smoothing locally and cautiously where available, checking that meaningful edges and textures remain. Preserve real openings instead of allowing broad repair to invent surfaces.
Choose an export suitable for the next application, and check the model's units, orientation and required reference origin. Open the actual exported file separately. Confirm that important geometry survives the handover; a successful save message alone does not establish a usable CAD, inspection or printing input.
